6 !"The first Cole to come to Horton Township was Ezekiel Cole. He was of
English origin, a military man who served with the British army under
Wellington at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. He obtained a military land
grant to Stittsville, Ont., stayed there for a time and then came up to Horton.

!Ezekiel Cole's first wife died at an early age, in Stittsville. Little is
known about her. ... Ezekiel, his second wife Mary, Jane and Thomas of the
first family and four of the second family moved to Horton and took over the
W1/2 of lot 17, con. four. This farm was deeded from the Crown to John B. Lewis in 1841. In the 1842 census we find that Ezekiel Cole was on the property with his wife and seven children, but the farm remained deeded to Lewis until 1851. This property has remained in the Cole name since that date."

BIOGRAPHY: The minister at her baptism was the Rev. Gordon Postlethwaite. Vera was given two wedding showers -- one was held by Georgina which seems to have been for the ladies that possibly worked with Vera at T. Eaton Company in North Bay, since none of the names are familiar to me; the
second was held by Joan & Hazel Smith which included all the Rutherglen women. Fifty-one women were at Joan Smith's home for the later party. For the wedding, Vera worn "a navy blue suit with white picture hat, matching accessories and a corsage of pink with touches of white." Edna was her
maid-of-honor.

After their marriage, Vera and Cyril lived at 105 Ethelbert St., Sudbury, Ontario. On October 11, 1951, my mother remembers receiving a call that Vera had had a baby boy and that baby and mother were fine. Later another call came saying that Vera had hemorrhaged and died.

BIOGRAPHY: Dorothy weighed 7 pounds and was born at 1:00 am. Her birth
announcement has her as being Dorothy Edna. They must have changed their
minds, as Dorothy wedding invitations are Dorothy May. Dorothy "wore a
regal gown of white satin with an off-the-shoulder nickline featuring a
sheer yoke encircled by a bertha cuff. From the fitted bodice, the boufant
skirt swept into a short train. Her shoulder veil of embroidered net
illusion fell in graceful folds from a wreath of apple blossoms and
lily-of-the-valley. She carried a white bridal bouquet of carnations,
bouvardia and strailing sprays of lily-of-the-valley." Eleanor was the
maid-of-honor and Donna Smith was the flower girl.

In 1959, they were living in Onaping. They lived in Powasson,
Sudbury and Mississauga as well. They presently reside permanently at their
summer cottage, which they winterized. However, they spend their winters
in Florida.
