Dad had two brothers who lived close by. Uncle Chester and Aunt Hazel lived more or less beside us, down a long driveway that wound its way around and behind our farm. Uncle Emmett, who was a bachelor, lived in a little log house down the road from our farm. It was built in the 1800�s by Dad�s grandparents, Richard and Rachel Pennell, when they arrived as of the first families to move to Ontario from England. The house still had a lot of the furniture that Dad�s parents, Adoniram and Alice Smith, had purchased from the Eaton�s catalogue. The fire burning in the wood stove made the house snug and warm in the winter.
